East Side Sushi 2014
Plot Synopsis
Star sushi chefs are not born overnight, especially for a Mexican single mother. Juana used to be a seller of fruit plates, at which she honed her skillful and quick-yielding knife work. However, a robbery forces her to reconsider her career path, and Juana seeks employment at a sushi restaurant. Her knack for knives finds new outlet, and after discovering that she has a real passion for this foreign cuisine, Juana decides to pursue a career as a sushi chef. Under the guidance of new friends she makes at the sushi restaurant, Juana comes to understand the secrets behind sushi making. However, she is harshly criticised by her father and suffers racial and gender discrimination by others. Caught between wasabi and taco, how does Juana forge her own creative path?
